Classes and Events
The Recovery Institute offers many classes, seminars and groups. These include everything from
learning how to become a peer support specialist, to how to be a better student, to how to use computers. More classes include:
- PATH WORKSHOP for learning how to cope with chronic health problems.
- peer support for mental illness and substance abuse.
- art group.
- "PoWeR" GROUP. Group members share their personal recovery stories throughout Southwest Michigan to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness.
- exercise groups.
- breakfast groups.
- movie groups.
- animal & nature lovers.
- card & board games.
- crafts.
- cooking, and more!!!!
If you are interested in taking The Principles of Peer Support at Kalamazoo Valley Community College
in the Fall of 2010, please complete this application and send it to the Recovery Institute.
The application has its own instructions, but if you have any other questions about this process,

The deadline for applications is September 15, 2010.
The link above is to a syllabus that outlines the course offered at
Kalamazoo Valley Community College in cooperation with the Recovery Institute of
Southwest Michigan. The course is co-taught by Certified Peer Support Specialists
and provides students with an opportunity to learn the fundamental principle of peer
support work.
It is worth three credits in psychology.
